These Are The 5 Trends You'll Want To Try This Spring/Summer
The world is finally starting to normalize after two years of lockdowns and I found myself looking at my calendar for the first time in a long time realizing that I don't have the right pieces to wear to events.
With a black-tie wedding to attend, a mini getaway with my husband, Easter, and my niece's birthday party, April is busy and my social calendar feels packed. I thought it would be a great time to pop into Nordstrom and see what's new.
Before heading out, I made a mental checklist of anything I needed for the season. A pet peeve of mine is buying an outfit for an event like a wedding only to never wear it again. This is why I'm keen on separates. Versatility.
Nordstrom has become a go-to destination for me anytime I need to pick up something special so I was excited to see what they had in store for spring.
Keep scrolling to see what spring trends I had a chance to try and how I styled them.
5 Spring Trends You’ll Want To Wear This Year
TREND 1 | PUFF SLEEVE
The puff sleeve is having a moment this season and let me just say - the bigger, the better. This trend is perfect for those who want a dramatic look and want to have fun with fashion. Wear this FRAME Puff Sleeve Crop Top with jeans or utility pants for an elevated daytime look. For evening, pair it with a maxi skirt and heeled sandals.
A feminine puff sleeve shirt looks great with these utility pants from FRAME.
TREND 2 | COLOUR
From soft pastel shades to bold and bright, colour is in for spring. Bright hues like these orange high-waisted pleated shorts from VINCE are sure to make a statement. Pair it with a striped knit cashmere sweater and high-top Converse like these special edition Rick Owens pair for a casual look.
For a dramatic effect, go full head to toe in a single colour to make a bold statement. Or, add just a single pop of colour and keep it minimal. Either way, have fun playing with colour!
TREND 3 | CUTOUTS
For those who like to show a little bit of skin, cutouts are a great trend to experiment with this spring. This mock-neck cutout top from Open Edit is flattering with a pair of Madewell jeans, and would also look fabulous with oversized black trousers and a pair of chunky loafers.
Add a jacket like this military inspired one by Free People if you want to ease into the cutout trend slowly.
TREND 4 | FLORALS
Florals are practically unanimous with spring and I love the idea of approaching florals in a new light. This quilted Veronica Beard jacket is reversible so you can get maximum wear from the same piece of clothing. The wooden buttons add an almost boho vibe while the cropped length makes it perfect to pair with jeans, shorts, skirts, and dresses. This is the kind of piece that can be dressed up for work or dressed down on the weekends.
Florals for spring are always a good idea.
TREND 5 | MONOCHROME
Monochrome is classic and effortless and I'm thrilled to see it on the spring runway for 2022. Prada, Chanel, and Dior all presented elegant monochrome looks in fun and interesting silhouettes. Have fun with proportions and pair a puff sleeve shirt like this one from FRAME, with cropped black pants and a pair of chunky boots. Mix lighter feminine fabrics with thick denim and leather to create dimension and texture. This will bring a simple look to life and make it feel chicer. For an evening look, swap the cropped pants for a maxi skirt and the boots for a heel. Simple, elegant, and fun.
All of the looks here are available at Nordstrom and Nordstrom Canada.

My Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Haul (OUTFIT + VIDEO post)
If you follow me on IG then you'll know that I recently had a chance to pre-shop the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale a couple of days ago.
This sale happens once a year in July. It's when the store teams up with a bunch of brands like Madewell, Alice & Olivia, Alexander Wang, along with other awesome designers and offers new fall fashions at a discounted price for a limited time. Yes, I said NEW FALL FASHIONS. *mic drop*
I scored this cute Treasure & Bond suit (a Nordstrom house brand) for $150 at their anniversary price along with this ADIOS t-shirt from Madewell. How I only came home with these three pieces is seriously a miracle. (Either that or I have Paris on the brain.)
PRESS PLAY to watch my latest fashion haul on my YouTube channel!
I paired the suit with my red-orange Alexander Wang x Adidas three stripe sneakers. I ordered them on the weekend and they came in just in time to wear with this suit.
(BTW - These kicks are special edition and came out earlier in the season. They went on sale and I happen to score the last pair in my size. I swear, shoes always find me!)
I let the menswear inspiration do it's thing and left my handbag at home. Instead I opted for my LV accessories - my (19 cm) Toiletry Pouch, small agenda and 4 key ring holder. Something about the pops of red against the grey plaid just make the outfit come to life.
I'm glad I stepped outside of my comfort zone for once and opted for a suit instead of another pair of jeans.
Fall, I'm ready. Bring it!
Wardrobe Refresh + 5 Items to Buy for SS18 feat. NORDSTROM
WHAT I GOT FROM THE NORDSTROM 'HALF YEARLY SALE':
AG Jeans in the Harper cut (on sale in Nordstrom stores)
Vince Emberly Mule
Madewell Denim Jacket (size large for that oversized fit)
White t-shirt (similar here)
Do you guys ever have that feeling that your wardrobe needs a little refresh? Ya, me too and I’m totally going through that right now.
My wardrobe has been feeling a little stale recently and after countless hours of perusing Pinterest, I felt like the universe was trying to tell me something – get yourself some new clothes woman!
I took an afternoon to purge anything that I don’t use anything – handbags, shoes, clothes, jeans that no longer fit. Come on, who else does this hoping they'll fit again one day?
After dropping everything off at my local consignment shop, I drove over to Nordstrom for their 'Half Yearly Sale'.
There were certain key pieces I’d be on the lookout for – a black shoe, some straight cut denim, and maybe a new jacket?? I didn’t want to stick too closely to a list because I really believe in leaving room for the element of surprise. Nothing gets my heart going like finding that perfect piece on a total whim.
I was keen on refreshing my wardrobe with some new cuts. My personal style remains the same and I still all about that whole edgy chic/retro aesthetic that I’ve always loved. I’m just a bit tired of the ankle-hugging skinny jeans and flat shoes at the moment so it was time to change it up.
I immediately found these amazing black suede mules from Vince. I have a similar pair in camel and every time I wear them I get loads of compliments. They're also really comfortable and don't need any breaking in.
I went for some good ol’ classic denim pieces and found not one, but two pairs of straight cut jeans I’d been after. I also couldn't resist this oversized denim jacket from Madewell. I got mine in a size large and what I like about the oversized fit is how it can be worn a few different ways.
You'll notice in some of the photos I buttoned up the last three buttons from the bottom and wore it off the shoulder with a white tee underneath. For the other denim on denim look, I just went for the over-the-shoulder-tried-tested-and-true.
What I like about the oversized fit of the jacket is how it creates movement and visual interest to an otherwise simple outfit.
STYLE TIP: Denim on denim or anything monochrome is a simple way of looking put together. It's impactful, chic, and works for everyone!
I’m really happy with the starting phase of my wardrobe refresh and I’ll be looking at adding a few more key pieces as the Nordstrom 'Half Yearly Sale' continues. Full disclosure, I went back the next day for some fuchsia pink trousers and a checkered blazer. Now we’re talking!
